From high winds and driving rains to hail, ice, and heavy snow, your home's roof is exposed to frequent assault from harsh elements. Severe weather often causes minor damage that goes unnoticed, but if left unchecked, that damaged area grows, leading to leaks that can ruin your belongings, expedite mold growth, and require expensive, costly repairs.

At Vinyl Master Home Improvement, we provide a thorough roof inspection that identifies areas of concern before they become serious problems and keep you informed about the health and longevity of your roof. With hundreds of 5-star ratings across Google, Angi, and HomeAdvisor as well as an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, you can feel confident that our experienced team of roof inspectors has your best interests in mind.

A+ Rating from the Better Business Bureau

The BBB only rates the most trustworthy companies with their highest rating. Our roof inspectors are dedicated to customer service and it shows!

Our Comprehensive Roof Inspection Process

We provide you with a multi-step, highly involved roof inspection where we look for leaks, unusual wear and tear, damage caused by tree branches, pests, or hail, and we also check for poor installation from a previous roof replacement or repair. Our roof inspector will look at four specific "facets" of your roof and compile their findings into a comprehensive report.

Structural Inspection

  • Masonry around chimneys, specifically looking for cracks, lost grout, or damage to the chimney cap.
  • Looking for how many layers of shingles are on the roof.
  • Inspecting the decking for damage.
  • Signs of sagging or unevenness along the planes of the roof.
  • Exterior attic venting to ensure proper flow of heat and moisture in and out of the attic.
  • Soffits, fascia, and the gutter system around the home, where we look for cracks or other damage that can compromise your roof system.
  • Roof penetrations, including around skylights, plumbing vent pipes, and other areas where a hole is made in the roofing.

Material Inspection

  • Loose, missing, or curling shingles.
  • Excess granules from the roof shingles collecting in valleys of the roof or around the gutters.
  • Staining and dark streaks.
  • Moss or organic growth.
  • Missing flashing or fasteners
  • Rust development.

Interior Inspection

When you have your roof inspected, we always check the interior as part of our process as it's common for small leaks to go undetected from the outside, but are very apparent from the interior of the house. In your attic or top floor, our roof inspector will look for:

  • Water stains on the ceiling or interior walls
  • Mold growth
  • Moisture damage to wood in the attic

Workmanship Analysis

Often, roofing problems arise from poor quality workmanship that took place in the past. DIY repairs or mistakes made by a previous roofing professional can lead to serious problems in your home if not found early.

Frequently Asked Questions About Roof Inspections

For most homeowners, a roof inspection is not necessary, though it is highly recommended to ensure it’s in good shape.  However, many insurance companies do require this, and it’s also legally required before purchasing an investment home.

A home inspection is completed before you buy or sell your home and while inspecting the roof is necessary, home inspectors usually take a broad view looking for obvious issues rather than a comprehensive, in-depth look.

A roof inspector takes a much closer look at the roof, checking for much more specific concerns, ranging from vents to individual shingles to create a more comprehensive report.

It’s generally recommended to contact a roofing company in early fall for your roof examination. This allows them to look for any damage caused by summer storms but also ensures it’s in proper condition to handle heavy snow over the winter (before it starts falling).

Many people will attempt to do their own roof inspection, armed with a ladder or a drone and a checklist. However, a reputable roofing contractor has the knowledge to go beyond obvious damage and surface issues to catch minor problems with your roof system that can lead to serious problems in the future. Also, you don’t want to risk falling by getting up on the roof by yourself.

Once we complete a thorough inspection of your roof system, we will provide you with a report detailing our findings. If we find problems, we’ll outline any roof repairs needed along with a quote for repair costs. In more extreme cases, we would recommend a new roof be installed and would also provide a quote for that service.

After severe weather, we can provide our findings to your insurance company so you can put in for a claim. Also, if you need a roof inspection to have insurance put on a new property, we can provide our findings to them in this case, also.

Ideally, you’ll schedule a roofing inspection once a year, but at the minimum, you should always schedule one after severe weather, including hail or high winds to ensure no damage was done.
